Welcome to the Programme of Study (PoS) page.

On here you will find outline information on the topics being taught for all year groups. For Year 7 and above, this will include: when in the year they are being delivered to students, a title known as The Big Question and what students are expected to achieve. The topics are built around an element of the National Curriculum or examination syllabus and are designed to build mastery knowledge and develop a student’s skills as a Self-Directed Learner.

To ensure that we are helping all students achieve their best in the activities that have been planned, we have graduated the response to tasks using the SOLO (Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes) taxonomy which is explained below. We will use the SOLO learning tasks to help us assess the level of mastery students achieve and identify the gaps in their learning that will move them on to the next stage. However, more importantly, this will allow us to celebrate the learning journey of every student towards being self-directed by also engaging with how the student is learning and not just what they learn. This metacognitive approach to learning ensures that the students know themselves as learners and they use this knowledge to manage their own development.

The PoS will not be organised in lessons but in Learning Episodes. They will inform the learner and you about the number of minutes planned into the Learning Episode and when the key deadlines are due. The minutes will also identify for you how many should be used for home study so you know that your child has work to do.
