On Monday 7 January 2019, I visited Test Valley Packaging for my Work Experience as usual. This week, my time there was different and I had a really exciting afternoon.

Monday was the start-of-year launch for the business. This involved a very yummy lunch of different varieties of pizza from Dominoes, accompanied by chips, chicken bites, chocolate brownies and flapjacks.

Lunch was followed by a short presentation and interactive activities. We were divided into 3 groups and had to complete 3 activities. These involved: how fast can you pack a box, lots of running around and pouring water onto an absorbent paper on a table and wrapping people in pallet wrap – all linking to our packaging products.

Next, there was a very exciting and interactive guest speaker who introduced himself as the ‘Speaker with the Orange Tie’. Steve Beckles Ebusua is an ex-teacher and well-known motivational speaker.

Steve was dressed very differently – he was wearing orange shoes, orange tie, black trousers with orange belt, orange socks, orange watch, orange phone case, black jacket and a black and silver patterned waistcoat. He told us he drives an orange mini. He chooses orange because it is energising, bold, bright, vibrant, engaging and memorable.

He spoke about how the brain works and what stops us doing things. He spoke about counting 3, 2, 1 to help you get out of bed in the morning and going 3, 2, 1 before you answer the phone.

Overall this made for a motivating and memorable day at work. A big thank you to Test Valley for including me.
