Our Year 13 students have started their job hunting preparations in earnest after a visit from the Careers Co-ordinators from all the localities. Garth Holmes and Doug Ghinn briefed all the students regarding the possible ways to approach potential employers, and considerations that need to be made when approaching businesses for employment. Students then separated by locality and had the opportunity to discuss with their dedicated career co-ordinators.

All students should be putting in place a long-term plan that will see them completing a minimum of one task per week that actively helps them seek employment. This could include, but is not limited to: research businesses, targeting a CV or personal statement for a specific role, contacting careers co-ordinators to discuss potential opportunities or hopefully being courageous enough to put themselves outside their comfort zone and calling potential employers.

An emphasis was also placed on students articulating their academic goals and linking this to the value that this will bring to the workplace. This should provide excellent motivation for students entering serious exam preparation as regardless of when students secure employment, they should be committed to fulfilling their potential and holding themselves accountable to these academic targets.

Thank you to all the Career Co-ordinators for being so giving of their time and knowledge; it was greatly appreciated by Year 13.
