On Wednesday 8 June, the Year 5 pupils travelled over to London to visit The Golden Hinde II, a replica of the ship that Sir Francis Drake used to sail around the world on his voyage starting in 1577. We were asked to imagine that we were living and working on the ship, and we were given an excellent and informative tour by our guide.
The pupils learnt all about life on-board, the different roles on the ship, and what daily life was like for each person.
It was not all just sitting and listening though! All the children had a go at raising the anchor and steering the ship!
Some took the part of the “powder monkeys” and set the cannons ready to fire!
All in all, it was a fantastic day, which really helped us imagine what life was like for explorers in Tudor times.
