On Wednesday 7th December 2016, 18 students from Wilton Campus travelled to Hindhead Campus to take part in the South-East Focus cross country meeting.
Following a mass warm up, the students headed out, in year groups at 5 minute intervals, on a 4km (girls) 4.5km (boys) race in the Devil’s Punchbowl National Trust Park, which backs onto the school grounds.
Not only was it an enjoyable event but students from Wilton Campus did particularly well with two 1sts, one 2nd and two 3rds in the medal table!
Anya Steedman – 1st year 7 girls
Tigerlily Farrant – 1st year 9 girls
Ted Farrant – 2nd year 9 boys
Harrison Brown – 3rd year 9 boys
Jackson Barter – 3rd year 8 boys
Here’s what Harrison & Ted had to say about the event:
“At 8:45am on Wednesday 7th December, we left Wilton on our journey to Hindhead Campus. After we had a brief overview about the course, we set out on our walk to the starting point. At this point, we did a warm-up led by two sixth-formers. About 45 minutes behind schedule we finally started! Year 7 first, Year 8 followed by Year 9. The course started off with a gradual descent, which was roughly a mile. We then turned back on ourselves and began the ascent back to the finish line, where we received an abundance of cheers and encouragement.
Finally, once everyone had finished, we made our way back to the school where we had lunch. After this we had an assembly, where the headmaster handed out the medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. He also handed out the cup for the winning house, which happened to be GREEN, who finished with 208 points.
With legs aching, we got back on our buses and made the journey back to Wilton.”
A big thank you to the teachers and community members who made this event possible.
