On Monday 22nd May, the Great Wilton Bake Off final took place. It was a great day, enjoyed by all, although it was very hard to decide the overall winners due to the fabulous cakes that were produced. We were accompanied by Paul Hollywood (Mr Hankin) and Mary Berry (Ms Kuzniar) to help judge and after a gruelling ½ an hour the winners were decided.
Michaela one of our BTEC students wrote this report:
For our BTEC course we had to plan and organise a business event. We decided to do a Great Wilton Bake-Off! This was compulsory for the cooking group in Year 9 and 10 and optional for anyone else in those year groups. The first round was a cupcake competition and all contestants had to make three identical cupcakes that not only looked great but tasted great as well! From this, the seven best bakers were picked to go to the final round. These were, Riley Dible, Caitlin Ruby, Kiara Sellars, Karlene Steedman, Elicia Dible, Sheridan Gardner and Annalie Steedman.
For the final round, all contestants had to bake and decorate a cake in three lessons under the themes of blue and summer. The results were fantastic! There were a lot of well decorated and tasty cakes which made it hard for us to judge. Eventually we made a decision. A very well done to the winners but not forgetting all the others who put in a lot of hard work and effort in baking their cupcakes and cakes.
1st – Elicia Dible – 174/200 points
2nd – Annalie Steedman – 169/200 points
Joint 3rd – Sheridan Gardner & Karlene Steedman – 164/200
