Last  Friday, our chef skills and business studies students ventured up to the NEC in BIrmingham to visit the Cake International Show. They were greeted at the entrance by a fabulous ‘wedding dress’ cake that stood at least two metres tall.

Students had time to look around the show at the many stalls selling an array of cake decorating equipment, sampling tasters and gaining hands-on. We marvelled at the many showcase cakes including a life size horse inspired by the film War Horse made totally out of cake and icing.

Students also attended a show in which Molly Robbins created a cat in a sleeping position from scratch in just 35 minutes, made totally out of icing with an airbrush used to colour it.

Above is the dress that everyone was talking about! Originally displayed at Cake International London 2017, as part of ‘Wedding Gowns through the Decades’ – this showstopper was handmade by Emma Jayne and took 60kg sugarpaste and 50kg modelling paste to create, emblazoned with over 1,500 handmade flowers.
