Year 2 GCSE PE students ventured to Southampton to visit the AGEAS bowl – home to the Hampshire country cricket team and regular host to a number of England international competitions every season. Wilton students were treated to a tour of the ground and learnt about the history of players and teams that have played there. They also received 2 coaching sessions from international academy coaches. The first session focused on batting technique and used a variety of bowling machines including the ‘Merlin’ spin bowling machine that was designed to imitate the famous Australian spin bowler Shane Warne.
The second session focused on bowling and students were able to use video analysis to adjust their technique and improve their pace.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and the visit will allow students to use what they learnt for their GCSE PE practical assessment.
